Learn Japanese Grammar ~ mono nara (~ ものなら)
Japanese Grammar ~ mono nara (~ ものなら) has meaning "if ~ at all, if one can do something".
Formation [接続]
Verb-potential + ものなら
Learn Japanese grammar: ものなら (mono nara). Meaning: if [A] is possible, then [B]; if one can do something.
It implies that the task is either impossible or very unlikely.
Basic Examples / 例
- 行けるものなら 【いけるものなら】(If I can go, then..)
- 戻れるものなら 【もどれるものなら】 (If I can return, then..)
- 休めるものなら 【やすめるものなら】(If I can take a vacation / break, then..)
例文
やれるもんなら、やってみろ。
Yareru mon nara, yatte miro.
If you can do it, let's see you try.
止められるものなら止めてみるがよい。
Tomerareru mono nara tomete miru ga yoi.
Try and stop me if you can.
やり直せるものならやり直したい。
Yari naoseru mono nara yarinaoshitai.
I wish I could start over.
忘れられるものなら、忘れたいよ。
Wasurerareru mono nara, wasuretai yo.
I wish I could forget it.
彼らがやれるものならやらせてみろ。
Karera ga yareru mono nara yarasete miro.
Let them try it if they dare.

Umarekawareru mono nara, tori ni naritai. datte sora o tobitai nda mon.
